Tanzanian Flag History and Meaning
A flag is the symbol of a nation and every flag represents some features of the nation. Tanzania flag serves the same purpose and is a representation of the unity, a national symbol and pride for the country.
The Tanzanian flag was adopted on June 30, 1964. The Tanzanian flag originates from the flags of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the two countries merged together to form Tanzania in April 1964. Tanganyika's flag was green with a yellow edged black horizontal stripe centrally placed; while Zanzibar's flag was a horizontal striped tricolor of blue, black and green. Tanzania chose a diagonal design to show equal status to both flags.
All the colors in the Tanzania flag have a special significance and meaning attached to it. The green color in the flag of Tanzania represents the nature’s beauty , the fertility of the land and the agricultural activity. The blue color represents the Indian Ocean, which forms a coastline with the exotic country. The black stripe represents the proud people of Tanzania, while the two yellow strips are representative of the country's mineral treasures.
